Playing in Acrylic

Playing in Acrylic

In my experience, most anything looks good in acrylic, so I've been having fun with it along with my husband and my friend. So a few of these paintings are by then. Anyone can do it!

2014 Week 8 Paintings: Watercolor and Stickers Collage

2014 Paintings Week 8
Watercolor and Stickers Collage

So it's coming a little early. I liked the painting techniques. They are relaxing and easy, and its fun to decorate them with ink when I'm done. And it's been really fun to use the stickers from my collection of Japanese stickers. There is such a variety and they are so funny! I make the stickers available at my etsy www.etsy.com/shop/mautio  I'm always adding new stock and getting attached to some of the items myself, that's why it's fun to put them in my work.

And also fun to practice my imperfect watercolor art. But I guess I don't aspire to perfect renderings, they're not important after the advent of photography. BUT I do want to develop a style. Even though it seems I've explored so many different styles by this point. Thanks for visiting!

I had a cold so I didn't do much in depth or research into my other projects. But I'm starting to come back to myself.

Workspace Rehaul

Workspace Created in my Tiny Apartment

I don't use my apartment dining table for eating so I turned it into a dedicated workspace so I don't constantly have to be rearranging the table that I do sit down to eat at. If I could possibly improvise an easel I'd be set for larger works.

The materials I usually use, beside my little plastic dry watercolor case, some cheap student colors I got in Korea that I should try to use up before I go back to America. Don't know if I need that much paint before that point.

A spread of brushes I have, just waiting to be used. But again, working small, I won't have a lot of use for them until I get back to America. So it will probably be mini paintings and sketches, rough drawings, until that point.

Week 4 Watercolor Postcard Dump

Wow, I can't believe I'm already a month into the experiment. And I haven't posted this much, or created this much art in years! I'm enjoying the experiment. When  I think I start to take steps back instead of forward, I paint something that surprises me and I like it. I think I'm learning to have fun with the colors instead of be scared of them, more like how I felt at the height of my creative life in high school :) It's a good feeling. Enjoy Week 4.

Still trying to learn how to achieve pink with my current pallette.

Pathway to a shrine in Gifu in springtime. Again, difficult to achieve pink so the blossoms did not come out as I wanted.

And we conclude with Tiel Raja!
